Auckland 12 January 1872 Dear Mr. McLean I cannot say, whether this will find you at Wellington, but enclose herewith, one of the printed Tickets, or Passes, from Manuhiri, introducting the Bearer of a Letter to some friends at Hawke's Bay, and requesting a Passage, which I ordered by the "Keera" steamer yesterday - The Ngatiwhatua Chiefs who were on the move to the Kuiti have postponed their visit in consequence of a message from Tawhiao, saying that he would send word when he was ready to receive them. I supply these little items of news to the "Cross" as they ask for them. Dr. Pollen received a Telegram from Mr. Floyd saying that news had come to the Thames to the effect that the Pirirakau's had threatened to interfere with the Line between Tauranga and Kati Kati - and that he had gone to enquire into the truth of the Report Telegram recd. this morning - Things remain quiet, and people looking out for you.
