My dear McLean, I hear you made a glorious speech yesterday and sincerely congratulate you upon it. I hope good notes have been taken as they will assist you very materially in making your statement of Teire's title for the Assembly. It has occurred to me that it might be adviseable to avoid saying anything about the terms on which we would make peace until the Chiefs have expressed their opinion on the justice of the war. I only throw this out for your consideration and beg you clearly to understand that I do not think of interfering with your better judgement on these matters.
