New Plymouth August 1st. 1851. Dear Sir, Rawiri will proceed to Wellington by the "Lucy James." A public meeting is to be held to-morrow evening, to consider the Governor's proposal to reduce the Town, and locate Pensioners. I feel much obliged to you for your note of the 14th. ulto. in which you ask whether I would like something in the Pensioners, as more permanent than the Police. I am naturally anxious for advancement, and cannot do better than leave the particular nature of it to your judgement. There is little reason to doubt that you will shortly be disconnected from the Police, which I cannot but regret, and that a new system will be introduced here, in which you will probably perform an important part. I remain Yours faithfully (Signed) H. Halse. To:- D. McLean Esq.
