Auckland July 31 /61 Sir, At Maraitai on my way down from Waikato about a week ago - there was a difference between Ruhiana and Tamahana Wakahou relative to the Ferry - Ruhiana and party urging an increase in the price to 3/- - Tamahana Te Kapa and the rest however were unwilling to alter the previous arrangements - Some of the Ngatetainga have cut a good broad bush road from near Rangikahu West Coast towards Wangape Lake, Waikato river, the direction in which I am located it is not quite completed it is about a days journey on horseback. These communications are unimportant unless to shew you the temper of the Natives in that quarter, at a time when you may be anxious to know the friendly Natives, from those of a contrary disposition. Yours fy. Tlgos. Gibson D. Maclean Esq.
