Napier March 18, 1871 Saturday Evening Dear McLean, Since I closed my letter to you I have communicated to Fox, Clarke's news about Ngatihuri and he agrees with me that Ropata should enquire into it and if he finds it correct treat them as enemies and walk them out to the Coast as prisoners - I am sure we shall do nothing until the Urewera give up shielding T.K. I have accordingly written to Ropata to the above effect. Today I have been busy most of my time with the natives about the Bush purchase and it is a very troublesome business. I think they will come to terms and if I do not get the whole Block that I shall get all the valuable part of it - I rather incline to that, not seeing any value in Puketoi and the Ruahine - Yours always J.D.Ormond Watt leaves by Napier for England
