Taranaki 24 Augt 1852 My dearest Douglas I have decided on leaving here Saturday first and shall use every expedition to reach Wellington as soon as I can. I trust you have got over your bit of temper about my short letter from here especially as this must also be a short one but I think it is better even to send a few lines than none at all. We have delightful weather if it continues. I am writing this in the Police Office. I cannot write a lover's letter in such a place. Be careful of yourself my dearest Puss. Be a good girl. Do not fret as you frequently do. Give my love to Papa. Tell him that he may soon expect me and I am ever your own affectionate husband. Donald McLean
