Wairoa March 15, 69 Dear Sir, The natives who went out to see the place where the attack was made upon the Canoe in the Waiau, that I reported to you, returned to their places today. They found the body of Te Amo and the clothing belonging to Rihimona.'' the body of the latter as also that of Te Wauhi was not discovered. We Tama Raro and brother are now in Capt. Spiller's custody Hamana giving them up upon my requesting him to do so the Govt. having sent instructions through Col. Lambert that they should be forwarded to Wellington. I have followed up the thread of the case against Hamana and it comes Home to certain members of Kohu. I will write you fully upon these subjects as soon as I have all the materials ready for doing so. I do not think Hamana was at any time himself a party to the evil disposition of some of his people. Col. Lambert has written to have 6 or 8 natives enrolled in the Constabulary for service in Patea. The natives are greatly exasperated at the attack made by the Hau Haus. There is no peace for this place until Te Waru and party are destroyed. I beg to remain Dear Sir, Yours obed. Servt. George Worgan His Honor, D. McLean, Napier.
