Napier July 30th. 1868. Sir, In continuation of my last report to Your Honor. We have had a very heavy flood, connenced on Saturday evg. raining for 2 days and nights had a heavy downpour. The large quantity of snow in the Hills which was melted very rapidly by a warm North East wind caused the flood to be as high as it was. There has no news of any material consequence arrived yet -- all are rumours and not authenticated by any officer or official Despatch. The reports are two Westrup and Wilson supposed to have lost a number of horses and been defeated in an Engagement with the Chatham Island Hauhaus. This is the Mailman's report which he brought from Poverty Bay to Wairoa. The other is Richardson and Paora Apatu started for Waikare moana and met some Hau Hau where they came from I do not know -- Paora Apatu bolted at first shot. Mitchell the half-caste brought this report to Wairoa but not accompanyed by an despatch from Mr. Richardson -- he also says a Native was taken prisoner riding Mr. Wilsons horse -- and that when he left several had fallen on both sides. In future I shall telegraph all news to Your Honor myself. I was under the impression that Capt. Rhodes had regularly done so. I am living in Town this week past -- Your Honors place looks nice and green. I send you that last Auckland paper -- in page 7 you will see a letter from Mr. Davis walking into Mr. Biggs. The ''Galatea'' was spoken by the barque ''Constance'' on the 17th. May. You will see at page 8 of the same paper -- report all well. July 31 1868. Waipawa arrived I telegraphed immediately -- letter private -- but I knew correct. I send you an extra enclosed with full information. Your Honor may be assured of the earliest and fullest information that I can obtain. Hoping you enjoy good health. I have the hr. to be Sir Your most obt. svt. Geo. Thos, Fannin. Mr. Wood changed his mind and did not print and extra I send Your Honor a copy of a letter I recd. Mr. Wood has again changed his mind. Col. Whitmore seems very sanguine of success. I was after all obliged to copy letter for Your Honor and then Mr. Rhodes took it and has forwarded himself. Please excuse the way it is addressed for I was writing against time.
