Tauranga 21st June 1870 My dear Sir, The Tauranga Schooner is now weighing anchor and I take the opportunity of forwarding by her, a note just received from Sub Inspr. Swindley at Opotiki. I expect an official report of the surrender of these natives tomorrow; Major Mair is still at Matata locating the Uriweras who surrendered a few weeks ago. Hapurona will now have reached Ruatahuna, so I hope soon to hear of the remainder of the Uriweras coming in. Mr. Commissioner Clarke is still here, but leaves for Auckland on 23rd Inst. The ''Virago'' came in yesterday, and all being quiet in these parts, and she leaves this afternoon for Poverty Bay, Napier and Wellington. The Telegraph works are progressing favourably. The survey of the road to Rotorua has been recommenced by Captain Turner and Mr. Gundry. I write in haste to catch the schooner. I remain my dear Sir, Yours very truly, W. Moule The Hon. D. McLean, Native & Defence Minister
