Clyde Thursday. December 3rd. 9 p.m. Dear Sir, I beg to enclose two letters from Turanga. They contain probably nothing wherewith you are not already acquainted. They are valuable, however, as bearing upon my desire to concentrate the natives into the two pas, Te Waihirere and Te Uhi. The Chiefs, Paora te Apatu, Honui Wai Noha and Tamihana, held a consultation with us to-day, and it was determined to issue an order compelling the objectors to come in, on pain of being left to their fate. This will be done to-morrow. Major Lambert, at my request, visited Puwhanui and Te Uhi, to see the condition of the natives there assembled. So far as Clyde is concerned, everything that could be done for its defence, has been achieved; and we could, I think, successfully resist any attack. Hoani desired some of his men to be sent back to Mohaka. Paora te Apatu, on the other hand, requested 20 of them to be sent to protect his pa. Under the circumstances, I urged the issuing of the Order referred to, and the keeping of Ngatipahauera till further orders, which has been agreed to. If the 300 men reported for service on E.C. are not started before this reaches you, I would suggest that they be landed here, rather than at Turanga. Puketapu must be assailed . I have not yet gathered very reliable information of the whereabouts and numbers of Pera Tipoki's people. I have the honor to remain dear Sir Your obedient servant (Signed) Geo. Worgan. To:- His Honor D. McLean Esq. Napier.
