Raglan 28th. April 1860. Sir, I have the honor to request that you will have the goodness, immediately on the receipt of this letter to enter into arrangements on the part of the Government for chartering the 'Raven' and 'Aotearoa' now at Kawhia for the purpose of enabling the European residents to leave either for this Port of Manukau as soon as possible. In the event of its being necessary to discharge a portion of the cargo on board the 'Raoru' for the purpose of carrying out the above arrangement, you will be good enough the parties concerned that that expense will be borne by the Govt. as well as any loss that may be sustained thereby. (In Rogan's handwriting) To:-- H. N. Brewer Esq., Sub Collector of Customs, Kawhia. Sir, I have the honor to request that you will avail yourself of the opportunity to proceed to Auckland by either of the vessels now in Kawhia which are placed at the disposal of the European Residents there for their removal to Manukau and that you will be good enough to ship all Her Majesty's stores in your charge, without however interfering with any arrangements for facilitating the shipment of goods the property of the Residents. You will also be good enough to forward to Auckland any spirits which may be in bond and on no account to receive duties for any spirituous liquars under your charge. (In Rogan's handwriting)
