Private. Police Office, April 24th, 1847. My dear Sir, I am glad to learn by your Note of this morning that a part of the Puketapu Natives have discovered their error, and if the Chief named Paul can satisfy you that he has a just claim to land near the Waiwaikis and is desirous of disposing of it for sale to the Governor I should recommend you to secure as much as he and his party have a right to dispose of. In answer to your question respecting Pauls son who wishes to enter the Police force - I should say it would be politic under existing circumstances to take him on immediately and I have no doubt it will meet the Governor's approval. Yours truly, Henry. King. To D. McLean, Esq.
