Wanganui July 7, 72. Dear Sir, When in Napier I told Mr. Ormond something of the exceedingly disagreable task I have had on this Coast and suggested that I would be glad to have an enquiry into my proceedings if convenient. I have to repeat this request to you as from the time Col. McDonnell left until now I have had nothing but oppostion and trouble - and added to this charges of one king or another against myself. I should prefer seeing you first if possible as, by an exact personal explanation of whatever I have done, I shall place you in a position to act as you think; desirable or fitting. I must say I foresaw somewhat of what has occurred when you first instructed me to assist the Superintendent. I have now arrived at the conclusion that it is next to impossible to please all parties. In reference to the last complaint made here that I have had some personal interest in private land dealings, I am quite able to and desirous of answering it. At any rate I should be grateful if you will let me explain matters first to yourself and then if necessary have an enquiry. Excepting in the matter of surveys I consider good progress made in all directions. I have the honor to be Dear Sir, Your most obedt. Servt. George B. Worgan.
