Auckland 29 June 1859 My Dear Sir, As I have just heard that a vessel is about to sail for Ahuriri, I have only time to say that all's well -- I wrote to you immediately on my return from Rakiri which will probably reach you no sooner than this -- I received your long and very kind letter which has had a great and beneficial effect on my spirits these dull times -- I have just taken a house from Dover for which I pay 10/s a week and am going to start keeping shop on my own hook -- I dont like the thing at all but in case anyone comes from Melbourne I shall be able to give them house room and although I never was in a place that suited my purse strings better than Dickeys, yet I was only there temporarily and the wonder was that I stopped so long, he has behaved admirably to me throughout from beginning to end and I can say no more -- Mr. Landfear spoke to me the other day and asked me to say with his kind regards that he wants from you for his children a which he hoped you would be able to supply him with out of your stock -- The price you will have to settle between yourselves -- You will perceive by the papers that you are getting unpopular here and the Governor is getting a wipe occasionally on your account. You have offended the Auckland people by stating that you have decided that Ahuriri is to be your resting place I believe you told the the bear truth there and nothing more, the fellows here are huffed, which is a matter of little consequence I know you will not be offended with me for saying this because you know me of old and I have a reason for speaking which is to belie the assertions which are being made about you and your presence along here would contradict, I am afraid you will not make this out but the mail is about to close and I am in a tremendous hurry. Always yours Very faithfully J. Rogan
