Wanganui, Oct. 17, 1850. My Dear Mr. Maclean, I fear you will be very much disappointed with my letter, because I am obliged after all our arrangements for the journey to Heretaonga to give it up Mrs. Taylor thinks that it would not be right for me to leave home at this time when we have made up our minds to send Basil to England, if possible, with Mr. W. Williams, as it will be necessary to be ready to avail myself of any opportunity of sending him to Auckland. Mr. Williams is to sail in the John Wesley next deer, under these circumstances I shall probably have to go to Wellington shd. any vessel be sailing for the north that Basil may go by it, I must say I feel very much disappointed in losing this opportunity of enjoying yr. company on a journey which I feel persuaded would be most seasonable for us both to take at this period especially when so much excitement prevails amongst the Panari, I hear the Govr. has arrived at Manawatu I hope he will not try to persuade the natives to sell their land lest he shd. undo what you have done there. In haste and with much regret at being unable to see you believe me my dr. Mr. Maclean with, our united kind regards very sincerely yrs. Richard Taylor. Donald Maclean, Esqre.
