Sep. 27, 1858. My dear Sir, The southern overland mail brings news of the deaths of the Revd. Mr. Woon, Dr. Rees, of Wanganui and Mr. McDonald, Manager of Union Bank Wellington. I heard that poor Mr. Woon was ailing but had no idea he was so near his end. You will see from the Herald that we were likely to have had a most serious accident in an attempt to communicate a second time with the "White Swan" --- another minute Mrs. Fletcher Miss Whiteley, Ford and possibly others must have been lost. I shall never forget the appearance of Mr. Whiteley when struggling against the breakers to rescue his child. I am glad to say all are now well. Hoping you are well, I remain, faithfully yours, H. Halse. To:- McLean Esq.
