Turanga 9 May 1866 D. McLean Esq., Napier, My dear Sir, I have written you twice by the that vessel has not however been able to leave the river. I now write by You will see by A/cs. sent to end of last month the reduction I have been enabled to make in rations. There are now 80 men of Morgans here which are additional. I do not suppose they will remain many days altogether we are supplying rations for about 400 men or rather people. We are all quiet and I hope as the Han Hau of the Wairoa appear to be completely broken up, we shall remain at peace for a time we have doubtless seen the worst. I hope you will be able to pay us a visit by return of St. Kilda. Very faithfully, J.W. Harris. I find that Reads charge is now 5d. a pound for meal. Was it not 4d. and have you allowed the difference. J. W. H.
