My dear Susan I should have answered your letter yesterday but I had some idea that you would have spent the evening at Mr Hargreaves so I went up there but of course he did not imagine that I did so on your account. I am glad that Dr Sinclair is going up this evening. You must entertain him the best way you can. If I were even disposed to go up I could not do so tonight having other things to attend to. Probably I shall see you at the Scotch Church tomorrow. Do not annoy yourself in the slightest on my account. It is your duty to love and obey your mother and render her declining years as comfortable to her as you can. Probably I shall not leave Wellington so soon as I expected.
