(undated.) My dear Mr. McLean, An opportunity presents itself; so I forward the receipts to you, and want more money when you can send it, if you please. There is not anybody to witness the receipte, but women, so I send them without. I daresay that the quantity of land surveyed, will be altogether 2 blocks, about 300,000 acres. I am sorry to say that I have damaged my leg. I fell in a hole over some dead timber in the bush, and have strained it sadly. I should like very much such an appointment as Mr. Cooper has got. It would suit me, and save my monies. I think that I could get on, as I have improved very much lately in the language. My way in the world is very "pouri" before me, but I must trust in God. I am afraid to think of the future, but I shall rely on your goodness; and as I have done all my last work to your satisfaction since I have been with you. I send you some specimens, but of what sort I cannot tell. They were found on the beach near Mataekonae. You will, perhaps, kindly write to Mr. Guthrie, who is on his way to Wellington with Mrs. Pelichet and my son. Kind regards to Mrs. McLean, and yourself Believe me Yours very faithfully (Signed) C.H. Louis Pelichet. P.S. Please send me some more forms of receipts, for I have none. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
