Nelson, 25th Sept., 74. My dear Mr. Reynolds, I have a telegram from Lord Normanby informing me that he will probably leave Sydney in the "Hero" on the 20th November for Auckland. I think that he should be sworn in on his arrival there I shall probably meet him and either depart by Sydney or return with him to Wellington on my way home. I think it should be arranged that the "Luna" should be at Manakau to bring him on. I dont know when the Court of Appeal meets, but perhaps it could be delayed a few days so that the Chief Justice may be at Auckland to swearin Lord Normanby. I do not suppose that it is necessary that he should be sworn in there, as if he were coming by way of the South he would be at Provincial Capitals without being sworn in, but Auckland is rather different and Sir George Arney took up the Government there. You will perhaps consider these matters with such of your colleagues as you have with you before my return which I hope will not be delayed beyond a fortnight I sail tomorrow morning. Believe me, Yours sincerely, James Fergusson.
