I send the "St.Kilda" down there today with Wi Tako, Matene te Whi Whi and other chiefs, and people from the West Coast, The Revd. S. Williams accompanies them, She remains two days at Turanga if necessary - I trust the above Chiefs may exercise a good influence in your district. The Maories as you must have often observed are constantly presenting new phases of character, but we have never known anything to equal the diabolical proceedings of the Pai Mariri. If I can be of any assistance to the Europeans at Turanga at any time it will afford me much pleasure to be able to do so. We are quiet in this Province except certain coverts to the new faith of the Uriwera, Wairoa and Petane upon whom under the influence of this fanticism no reliance can be placed.
