Native Office Auckland. 23 May, 70. My dear friend, I really have not had time to reply to your note, in reference to the Land Court Business. The Rehearing for the Takirau or Case went down on Saturday to Wellington for gazetting. I trust you will be able to make it answer in either or cases, as we have since receiving your official considered that the would be found sufficient, and I know that you will shew the villians a firm front. My own opinion is, that longer time should be given in like cases of Rehearing - to give time to collect the Papers which I know to be in a state of melancholy confusion at Wellington. I have sent to Cooper for the £100 Deed which ambraces everything. I trust you will be able to stop this attempt at disturbing our Purchases which as yet have remained intact. McLean sailed for Wellington on Saturday via Tauranga, and Napier to prepare for the Assembly. Henry Clarke is on sick leave at the Bay. Barstow who is now in Auckland and has just returned from Waikato is to be appointed there - Searancke to be removed, Hopkins Clarke appointed to Tauranga as Clerk to Col. Mole. C. Williams to do without a Clerk and to do duty at Russell Von Sturmer to do duty with J.P.s' at Hokianga. Young Mair ordered back to Opotiki, and Col. St. John recalled and other changes. Remember me to all Friends and believe me, Sincerely yours, H. T. Kemp. In the Commercial world some of the best Firms are shaking.
