28 May 1864 Glenorchy My dear Donald I was so glade to hear from Father Reignier last night that you had arrived safe home and that you were so far successful in getting help for the province. I wrote you on the 14th inst sending you the sheep returns which is correct and of course you will attend the payment yourself. Alex left here ... and his companion McKenzie on Tuesday night and we have not heard of them as yet. I wish to God you would settle with that old wre[t]ch. From what I hear they do nothing but plot all kinds of noncence ever since you left. Even old Malcolm I hear has joined in with him and there is nothing like letting people go when they want. I found Alexr very sulky and ugley for the last 10 days. He is brooding over some of their good for nothing plans no doubt. Mr Easdail is going down and I send you these few lines so that you may come up if you can otherwise let Malcolm and old Archy go down and let them be off. There is no use in having people about dissatisfied and plotting. I would send you some money by Easdail from John but I cannot go down today to the station as I am very busy at home. Kate is quite well and she does not want any famel [?] servant now. The cadate has been doing very well since he came up and I have keep him for 6 months. Annabella is also quite well.
