Wanganui Mar. 19, 1846 My Dear Friend, I avail myself of an opportunity of writing a hurried line or two by Mr. Cook who is on the pt. of starting for yr. Place. I have been at Wellington there I had many interviews with the Govr. which gave me an opportunity of speaking a few words for you the Protectors as a body will be dismissed but you may be quite easy yr. position is quite secure, the Govr. has since and in fact is still here we are all highly pleased with him, he is the man we want and I feel convinced will prove a blessing to the country his present plan is to send Major Richmond here with a surveyor to nack out the boundaries of the land to be sold. I recommended your coming also - and he has I believe written or else will write to you on the subject he proposes that they shd. stay a month here for that purpose so I trust we shall soon see you again amongst us my natives have behaved very well, but we have some troublesome fellows among the Patutokotoko's. The Govrs. views are very philanthrophic and we all quite love him he is very young, but as a very young person once said that is a fault he will mend of every day he lives. I feel much obliged for yr. kind intentions, relative to my communications accept all our kind remembrances and believe me most sincerely yrs. Richd. Taylor
