New Plymouth 1st. March 1872. My dear McLean, I am much obliged to you for what you kindly told me about finding me some employment, but I have thought it over, and I cannot imagine anything that the Govt. could have to offer me, that I would suit and at the same time suit me, I think it better therefore to say do not think of me in filling any appointments that may be made. I shall wish you well all the same and whatever changes may take place in the Ministry from time to time, I foresee that you will remain a member of it as long as you like. I am now picking a bone with the Post Master General (whoever he may be represented by) in a matter in which as I told Fred Carrington today, his private interest is considered at the expense of the interest of the public - but that need not affect you and me. Yours ever Truly, Chas. Brown.
