The barque "Poietiers" having discharged, sailed for Nelson. Fifteen of her passengers remained here. Private Cock, the coxwain to the Government boats, severely injured two of his left-hand fingers, while assisting in getting the "Poietiers" under weigh. The "William and James" from Mokau, cargo. I posted a letter to you with enclosures. Overland Mail left for Wellington. Private Cock admitted as in-patient at the Colonial Hospital. The "Governor Grey" sailed for Wellington. I wrote by her to you. The "William and James", Newsham, sailed for Manukau; passenger, Mr. Dampier; cargo, 2 tons flour, 4 cases butter, and native produce. Johnson returned, but was not fit for duty. Court Day. Medland on duty at the Police Office. Richard Cock left the Hospital. General muster and drill, after which Medland went on duty at the Police Office. At noon Newsham and Honi Ropiha came to Barracks. The latter brought a plaid coat and a pair of tweed trousers, stolen by Hemi, an insane native, from Josias Hoskins, in March last, to whom the articles were restored. Overland Mail from Auckland. A complaint was lodged against Hoera, of Moturoa by Wiremu, one of William King's party, for assaulting an elderly native woman, named Kanaki. Samuel Mathews brought a complaint against Paratene, for taking away an axe and turnip hoe from his premises. Inquiry was made by the Police, and the implements were returned to the owner. Overland Mail from Wellington. Parade at ten o'clock. Medland and Heale on duty at the Police Office, 10 to 12. A Meeting of Trustees to the New Plymouth Savings Bank was held at the Police Office. Mr. Cutfield was voted Vice-president, and Mr. Sharland appointed Accountant. Force met at Barracks. The Trustees again assembled at the Police Office. Honi Ropiha came to Barracks. Medland on duty at Police Office. Duncan Y. Minaiapa. Defendant did not appear. Case adjourned to the 1st. August next. Johnson returned to duty after an absence of 14 days, during which time he was not able to walk. The "Shepherdess", Swan, from Wellington, 9 days. Passengers - Mr. and Mrs. Young and three children. Mr. March and Master Perry. Cargo - sundries and 4 whds. of spirits. Received one Gazette and three newspapers for you. The same sailed for Kafia. General muster. Medland engaged at the Police Office. A party of Mokau natives belonging to the whunga, came into town. Munu, of Pukewaranga, called at Barracks, about a hut, and some kumeras, claimed by him, on a section at Moturoa, belonging to William Henwood. All here is quiet.
