Mon chere frere It seems some time since one had an opportunity of writing. Got your letter from the station also your telegram on arrival at Napier. All of which I was so glad off. We have had such dull depressing weather but today is bright. Hope it may continue. Spent yesterday (after church) with Mr Strang. He was in great spirits. Had a letter from Mrs Gordon. Wonderfully affectionate. Heard from Kate from Honolulu. They had a pleasant passage which occupied a fortnight & two days from here. Went with Mr & Mrs Fox to a missionary meeting last Monday. Mr F. chairman said a little, not much. He evidently is very proud of the favourable state of the country and other little matters. These are things one feels inclined to say little about when one's heart is full of gratitude. Was so thankful to hear Alick was keeping well. Somehow it gives confidence that things will go right as long as he keeps even moderately well. Mr Kinross talks of returning to Napier by first opportunity. Dr Grace called and asked if I would ask Mr Maxwell for a change. He said it would be a charity to do to Mrs Moorhouse & children. Spent the day here last week. Mrs & Miss Bell called. They were charmed with photographs of home that are on the wall. Strangers admire this place much. A rumour that you were expected in the Luna last week. Will write again tomorrow if steamer goes. Yours in haste Annabella McLean Monday July 3rd [1871]
