Auckland, Oct.20th, 1870 My dear Mr. McLean I have only time for a few words - just off for Thames again. I went on the 18th int. returned the same day as Court was adjourned till 21st to give Te Hira opportunity to appear - or send some representative. I hope we shall be able to manage to get Hira's rights brought before the Court - My principal reason in wishing to be present is to prevent if possible any Political difficulty arising I will also take the responsibility to carry out the instructions you issued to Mr. Heale at first sitting of Court at Ohinemuri One word about prisoners taken at Opotiki what ever you do please do not let either Te Tanaro or Tamati Tarahau have their liberty we shall bitterly repent it if you do - do not even send them to Ropata or place them in any Natives' keeping In great haste Yours faithfully Hy. T. Clarke
