Taranaki May 10th 1864 Dear Sir I have at present a work of some 250 pages, just going to press of the history of Taranaki from 1830 my object in going so far back is to enable me to draw comparisons with the tone of the native mind in days gone bye with that of the present date. I write now to ask if you would kindly give me a few concise remarks on the Waitara question. I have written to Colonel Gore Browne asking permission to dedicate the work to him so as to stamp the work as to the opinions of its author. Mr. Vogel, of the Otago Daily Times, whose correspondent I am, has undertaken the publication. Yours faithfully M. Grayling To Donald McLean Do you think a few copies will sell at Napier.
