Auckland May 28th 1870 My dear Mr.McLean The Taranaka Natives who are to go with Rogan to the Chatham Islands arrived this Morning and will leave again this evening for their destination - The hauhau question to which I referred in my letter of yesterday is still causing some excitement amongst the Ngapuhi Chiefs they had another meeting last night at which Kemp was present - they are very much in earnest, and are evidently anxious. Te Hemara I am afraid is very shaky - he was present last night and was talked to pretty severely by Mangonui and the other Chiefs - and he has half promised to use his exertions to check the spread of the spirit of disaffection which it really is in plain terms - A telegram has just come in from W. Te Wheoro to you the enclosed is a copy. It is very favorable and altogether satisfactory - The Mail is just about to close. Faithfully yours Hy. T.Clarke
