My dear McLean Enclosed is a letter for Fitzgerald which please read and post. Also an Official for Haultain which requires to have in the margin the number and date of the letter he sent to me which you have. Please put it in. We shall expect you tomorrow. Bring with you a duplicate of my last despatch to you for me to address to Haultain after signing it. My present letter to Haultain read and if you approve post. If not we will discuss it tomorrow. Feeling sure our last shot is fired and that we are not likely to have any more trouble here except among the friendly Maoris I am indifferent ahout retaining my command after the insult put upon me by Stafford. He will of course have an opening to apologise now. I have many matters to discuss with you I go down on Monday to a Militia dinner so we can go together and take any correspondence we like with us if you can stop the steamer an hour or so - or even if you do not. Believe me Very sincerely yours G.S. Whitmore
