Otawhao, Sepr. 26, 54 Dear Sir Hori te Waru fearing that you will have left Kawhia prior to my last note reaching that place, came down from Rangiaohia this morning to request me to write again to you on the subject of the sale of the proposed lands, Woodey Head, at Wangaroa and some land on the Waipa, which Mr. Heather thinks may contain 2000, or 3000 acres. If you have received my former note you will perceive that Turote at the request of Hoani Papeta, who is anxious immediately to sell Woodey Head, and of Hori te Waru who wishes to sell on the Waipa, a portion of the latter land being for the purpose of raising funds, for the erection of the new Church at Rangiaohia --- The two Chiefs are very anxious for you to come up immediately as they wish to sell the lands in question before you go to the South. The two chiefs appear very anxious that these lands should without delay pass into your hands. They say that if you go to the South many months must elapse before you can make the purchase, and they therefore request me to beg of you to come up --- I am much interested in the sale of a portion of Waru's land, as it is for our new Church, at which the Carpenters are now at work, and for which we require funds --- There is one point on which I wish for your opinion, it is in reference to the land for the Church. As one portion of land is expressly sold to raise funds for the erection of a Church, which will be for the benefit of the Europeans and Aborigines, would the Government in such a special case waive their claim to any profit arising from the resale of the land to Europeans, say at 16/- per acre, and give either at the time of the purchase from the Aborigines, or when resold to Europeans the full amount received for such land? As we are now engaged in building two Churches, at Otawhao and Rangiaohia which will cost when finished £800 to £900. I am anxious to raise as much as possible to enable us to complete our buildings. If Government would grant us this favour and if you can as a friend forward the same, you will very much oblige me and forward considerably our Church building --- I hope that you will be able to visit us before you go to the South, as the sale of the land at any price would supply us with funds.
