Elliot, Reed, Barriball, Gollop, McDougal, Edwards, wife and 3 children; cargo - general, and 559 bushels wheat. The "Shepherdess", Swan, from Kawhia; cargo - 1,000 bushels wheat. Overland Mail left for Auckland. Matiu, son of Pohorama of Ngamotu, died. Hakopa left for Waitara. I went to Ihaka's Reserve, and arranged a case of cattle trespass. Shute v. Jordan; case - cattle wandering at large. Mr. Kemp appeared for the defendant; decision, defendant fined 4d. a head, with costs. Hakopa returned from Waitara this evening, having been detained by freshets caused by the late rains. General muster and drill. Hakopa and Stewart went to Waiwakaiho, and estimated amount of damage to Ihakara's corn, caused by Mr. Nairn's cattle, at 8/-. The duties of the Police continue as usual, and all is quiet here.
