Opunake Feby. 27th. 1872. Dear Sir, The return of William King, and the reception he met with seems to have had a good effect on the Natives about here, I was much surprised at the altered views of Kumeni, and others of the Ngukuteopiapi natives who have been hitherto opposed to the road, the meeting generally was in favour of the road, nno one spoke against it at the same time they did not wish to see it pressed without the consent of those through whose land it passed. William King and Kahue were the principal speakers in pointing out the benefit of proceeding with the work. Te Whiti of course is the man whose decision will decide the Natives. Kahue seems to think that there will be a favourable decision at this Pariaka meeting, as Te whiti has no objection to the road, but merely wishes some terms come to with regard to the land before the road is made. I remain, Yours truly, P. G. Wilson.
