Te Onepoto 13th October, 1873 Dear Sir, I enclose you three letters I received today, you will see that Te Pkenui and Tutekanahau will arrive here shortly en route to Napier, it is a great feat in getting the former to go, he has never yet seen a town, and although persuaded some time ago by Major Ropata and Captn. Porter to go to Napier, he would not consent, it is a good sign his now wishing to do so, I am sure good results will follow - The raruraru as mentioned in Hetaraka's letter is a similar one to that which occurred between the Urewera and Ngatikahungunu with reference to Tukurangi, I have written to them telling them to leave the Government to settle it. I have nothing more to add by this opportunity and I remain, Very truly yours, Charles W. Ferris I herewith enclose letters from Ihaka Waanga about Patutahi and from Wm. McDonnell about back pay Patea Natives and from Dr. Ormond about Maori Police Wairoa. Also one from Ferris, I have a packet of letters from Uriwera - Ferris is an active man. He hopes to be made R.M. in Uriwera District and I believe would make a very good one - I shall soon work myself out of office so as not to be wanted - and if I could see my way pretty clear before me nothing on earth would give me greater real joy - I should feel a little more like the thing then holding the queer office I do - I hope you are enjoying your stay - It must be a very great pleasure and satisfaction to you after fighting the battle so well on one sound principle to see all coming as you predicted from the first - Yours very truly, S. Locke
