Royal Oak Hotel Wanganui Sept. 28th. 1872. The Hon. Donald McLean. Hon. Sir, I understand that some of Mr. Atkinson's friends are trying to persuade some of the settlers, Electors in the Egmont District, that he would join no Ministry of which you, Sir, were not Member. This they do, knowing that many of the settlers believe if you are not in the Native Office trouble will arise under Mr. Stafford's administration. Beleiving it to be an Electioneering ruse, I mean to proceed to Patea and Manutahi on Tuesday next; as there are 6 or 8 of the Electors who eill Poll with me for Mr. Moorhouse. Haniera and Wihi are the parts of the Patea district Mr. Atkinson is likely to receive most support. Capt. Blake should have some influence in that quarter. Please excuse my trespassing on your time, but believing it to be a matter in which you must feel interest, causes me to do so. I have the honour to remain Hon Sir, Your very obedient servant. (Signed.) T.W.D. Kennedy.
