Wellington 20th. May 1872. My dear Sir, It is only to-day that I have been enabled to pass finally a portion of the Land Purchase Depart-ment accounts, Dr. Knight only returning last week from the South. I hope the official letter I have written may be satisfactory. The accounts still to be written off will not be of moment on your Return. At the same time I have written Mr. Rogan and Mr. Sinclair for information, should such be required. The office work in general goes on smoothly, and papers and records are, at least from 1870, in their places, and can be readily found from their Indexes. The work which Major Heaply was so ably carrying out, has not progressed as fast as it should; but what has been done is well worth the money it has cost. During the Session, when Major Heaphy will be in Wellington, more progress will show itself. If I am not presuming, may I again beg of your interest in securing Mrs. Sealy a home in Wellington. Believe me, my dear Sir, Yours obediently, (Signed). Rich. J. Gill.
