My dear Sir, I am happy to be able to tell you that the difficulties thrown in our way by the Harbour in reference to the Telegraph between Auckland and the Thames are gradually disappearing. Taipari showed in a letter yesterday in which he was told by Reihana to Tahua that Tarapipipi and Pineaha would oppose the telegraph no longer. I return to the Thames tomorrow and will then arrange for the Natives to meet the Hon. Dr. Pollen in order to come to a final understanding in reference to this question. We shall only be opposed now by the smaller fry and with a little patient forbearance and steady perseverance in the work being supported as we now are by the influential land bidders then must carry the fort. Old Riwai has I find been at the bottom of all the opposition. One of the tunnels at the Piaho very nearly completed was blown down by a gale of wind a few days ago. ...
