Napier Octr. 29th /65 Dear Sir I dont know whether you will think the enclosed worth publishing or whether it will assist at all - for I should like to do something to show that although I have some times appeared to behave and talk strange I most certainly never once intended it towards you personally. They have been very different matters that caused often what appeared to be grumbling when I have at times taken more than I ought, and for which I have often been sorry after, I have just had to send away as I have on more than one occasion before, and may have to do again nearly all that I had saved, and this happened at a time when it seemed to me that the government () seemed to look over or rather to slight what little good I may have been able to do - For if not done well it was done with sincerity on my part, This is the first time in my life that I ever mentioned the cause that often makes me appear to be dissatisfied with everything. I remain, Dear Sir Yours truly S. Locke To His Honor D. McLean Esqre. Napier
