12 November 1864 Glenorchy My dear Donald I was so delighted to get my dear boy's letter. It is so much like the child. It is a great pleasure to have him now to write to being almost the only one in that part of the globe as relation I have to write to except my dear sister. Your last trip will be a crown of honour to you but I fully expected it. If you are not coming up soon I must go and see you regarding the accomodation house to see what is to be done. I was down their on Monday and find things will have to be altered and if it is going to be broak up till after shearing all the furnature must be packed up and layed by not to be destroyed and kicked about after so much trouble in getting it up and the cost. I also want to settle with you for the sheep to road party. I inclose a cheque for nine pounds from John that I got when down. I find he had on the books over £60 and the rent. He will have to a/c for some of it he has got for change and the rest is not paid. Alex has been laid up for 8 or nine days very poorly but he was up yesterday and went to the station. I hope you will come up next week if possible if at all you can. Catherine is quite well and my Kate is now in better spirits. Old Grey is still hacking about. He stays with me mostley. It is time he was coming to some understanding. He is very slow in making up his mind to any thing but the one thing but perhaps it is all the better slow but shure. He was working at the back country with me one day and he wants to see you regarding it. Do come up if you can for a few days. Of course your last trip will have made your spirit quite boyant. It will mind you so much of the old times. The English grass is making a good show this year. I hope Annabella is quite happy and a good house keeper. No more till we meet. Your affectionate brother Archibald John McLean Received from Captn McLean a cheque for nine pounds a/c of accomodation house. Donald McLean Esq Napier Forwarded by Mr Orr
