Maketu 27 April 1868 My dear McLean If we are to do anything at Opotiki we want as many men as we can get together, I have therefore directed Whitmore to ship the Constabulary by the "Sturt" as soon as possible. I find that the Ureweras are the principal people in arms against us in that District, and from all I can hear they mean to fight. I shall go from this to Opotiki as soon as the Constabulary arrive, to give instructions as to what operations are to be carried on, in the mean time I am going up to Ohinemutu and Tarawera to arrange about the Princes visit. In haste Yours very truly T. M. Haultain
