Auckland 27 March 1865 My dear McLean, The last deeds you sent duly arrived. I now send another for your execution. The objection to Hargreaves and myself signing first is that some difficulty might arise in case the deed were lost. If we signed first your signature would make it complete when a loss would be serious, whereas the deed signed by you alone would be but Waste parchment Yours very truly, Fred. Whitaker Donald McLean Esq., Napier. I was very sorry to hear of your serious illness. I hope before this that you will have become convalescent. F. W.
