April 25th. 1868. Sir, Certain of the Wairoa natives who possess an interest in the Land offered for sale by Hamana are now on their way to the meeting at Tareha's. They are however only such as are under the immediate influence of that Chief. Ahipene Tamaite mate and Matiu Karehuka are the men most necessary to conciliate - the latter represents an intermediate Block of 300 ac. There is moreover no comparison between the relative values of the respective Blocks offered by "Kohea" and "Taeapa", the former as marketable land being worth five times the latter. I would advise the payment of a small sum to Hamana and Maihi to bind the Transaction, and I will at once feel the disposition of the others to the sale. Should agree, I do not conceive that the completion of the purchase need await the sitting of the Land's Court. Considering however the Paramount importance of the acquisition of these blocks to the future of Wairoa I shall neglect no precaution that may ensure success in the transaction. I have the honor to be Sir, Your most obedt. servt. George R. Worgan.
