Napier June 4th 1872 My dear McLean I have only time for a hurried line as this is a busy day and the council about to meet. That wretch Henry Russell is working like a fiend and doing a great deal of mischief among the Natives who are as might be expected in a very excited state. He is however going altogether too far and will be caught tripping before long. I telegraphed you he was about to make a criminal charge of Forgery against George Worgan and I believe this has since been done and a Warrant for Worgan a apprehension sent to Wellington. The charge is that Worgan forged the name of an old woman who was one of the grantees in "Awa te atua" Coleman's block - the attesting witness a man named Harrison a great sweep is out of the Colony. No doubt plenty of native evidence will be got to swear to anything that is wanted. This is a deep move on Russell's part for if he shd. succeed in his case against Worgan, Worgan's testimony in all the other cases he has acted as Interpreter would be next to worthless. If you have not already given Worgan leave you will need to do so at once. He shd. come here by the Nebraska on the 10th and wd. be able to defend himself. I must close - Council waiting. Always, Yours very sincerely, J. D. Ormond
