Dear Donald Poor dear Alec had a bad fit yesterday which has weakened him much. I was up with him all night and the only thing I can get down his throat is port wine in a spoon. His bad leg is very much swelled Alltogether he looks bad and I have no hope whatever of him now I think that he still knows me for when I move away his eyes follows me. Robert left the [crossed out] in the 'Patterson' last night. There was no one in the room but myself when Alec had the fit yesterday and I was very much put about. Fortunately Mr Sydie came in and he was a great comfort to me for he had seen people in the same way before. I am just going up to breakfast Yours Kate I am glad you are comfortable at the cottage. My heart grieves to see him that was so fond of the place & I fear will never again return to it
