Napier 27th July 1867 Dear Mr. McLean I received your note of the 22nd Inst. and am preparing the documents you require and shall send them by the next mail. I think I have been able to make out the return of arms very satisfactorily by looking at the old letters from you when at the East Cape. The St. Kilda arrived here last night, and this morning Mr. Bourke and the merchants at the Spit begged of me to detain her till 1 p.m. instead of sailing at 10 a.m. as Captn. Fox had intended. I did so more particularly as Mrs. Danvers was so anxious not to lose the opportunity of getting to Wellington, but after all the preparations had been made the Doctor would not allow her to go, in consequence of the children not having recovered from measles. Mr. Twigg has just arrived from the country and says your brother Alexander is ill he has taken the Doctor with him. I saw Captn. McLean the day before yesterday he told me Mrs. McLean would proceed to Wellington by the next mail. I was awfully astonished to hear of his house having been burned Mr. Henry Russell will go to Wellington overland, he has asked me to attend a grand meeting at Waipukurau on Wednesday next I hope the Defence Office will not forget me in their next remittance to the Sub Treasury. I remain Yours faithfully Edward L. Green
