Poverty Bay. 4th. June, 1873. Dear Sir, I have been successful in all the objects of my visit to Waiapu. I expect all the arms to be collected by middle of July, at Aku Aku I have 200 stand. Ropata will go on collecting during my absence. I experience difficulty in getting stores at the price estimated as material has gone up in price I shall not however have to ask for more. Ngatiporou wanted 10,000 for Patutahi but reduced to 5000 on my declining to be the bearer of their first offer, all the chiefs were present at the runanga including old Iharaira. I am not yet furnished with details of Karaitianas meeting but have heard that a deputation from here is to attend parliment to represent greivances. Money is being collected to defray expenses while in Wellington. I have the honor to be Sir, Yours faithfully, T. W. Porter, Adjt.
