28 Novr 1851 My own dear wife I have just three seconds to say that I am not sending boxes or anything by the 'Rose' this trip as I may require some of the things here. Moreover she is starting much sooner than I expected otherwise you would have a much longer letter from me. Take care of yourself pet and do not feel anxious about me as I am enjoying excellent health and were I conscious that you and Mama were in good health I should also be in good spirits. May God bless and protect you both is the earnest prayer of your affectionate husband Donald McLean I would write some more gossip but our old Papa is such a plague looking at our letters that I will not gratify his curiosity.
