Rangitikei 5 July 1852 My own dearest Pet I often thought of you yesterday and trust dearest if you have partaken of the Lord's Supper that it will more strong & firmly unite you to our Heavenly Father who seeth in secret and whose spirit ever watches over us. May His blessing attend you and may He guard and protect you from all the ills and evils of this wicked world. Put your trust in Him, read His word with diligence, and may His spirit sanctify and consecrate you to His service. I am sorry dearest that I cannot write you a long letter. I am anxious to get to Whanganui today, so that I may not have an opportunity of writing you again by this mail. I thought of you the night I was at Mr Williams's. Mrs W had a shivering fit quite like yours so that I suppose they are common to people under certain circumstances. May God bless you my own pet and believe me ever to be your own affectionate husband. Donald McLean
