Cooper has called upon me to make some change in the Tikokino reserve and I proceed thitherwards. Reymond of the U B of A is in correspondence with Mr. Chapman late Judge in Wellington who writes to the Times on the War and the honorable gentleman alias the one in (Hadfield) writes also to the Times, Sam. Williams told me so. The Revd. Colenson is doing no good amongst the natives here. The Parson set have not much support here, and they are likely to have less. I have been working to get up an expression of public feeling against them, but we must wait the arrival of Tom and Curling. My wife and daughter go up by this ''Swan'' and I suppose that I will follow before long. The natives here quiet but evidently on the look out Moananuis Pa Tananuiarangi has cultivations about it with ditches as in sketch. Some person having influence with the Natives should visit Hawkes Bay. The Man-in-charge is reported not to have had communications with them for months so write to me by return of the ''Swan'' for I am unsettled. Always, Yours very sincerely, M. It is not usual I believe for natives to cultivate round a Pa, and as the cultivation was enclosd with a ditch of no ordinary shape and impediment existing on the to its having been continued square.
